‘Game of Thrones’ Breaks Records After Being Nominated for 32 Emmy Awards

It seems like Game of Thrones isn’t done being everyone’s most sought-after show even after it’s ended. The fantasy-drama closed out its run in May, finishing off the controversial eighth season with an even more controversial ending.

Despite fans having mixed reactions after the finale, Game of Thrones still received a jaw-dropping 32 Emmy nominations. It now holds the record for most Emmy nominations received in a single year. The title used to belong to NYPD Blue when it received 26 nominations all the way back in 1994.

Game of Thrones is nominated for major awards such as Outstanding Drama (which it’s already won three times before), Cinematography, Directing, Editing, and a handful of acting categories.

Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke received nominations for Lead Actor and Actress in a Drama. Meanwhile, Lena Headey, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Peter Dinklage, Gwendoline Christie, Alfie Allen, Sophie Turner, and Maisie Williams all received supporting nominations.

HBO, overall, took home a whopping 137 nominations which include nods for Chernobyl, Sharp Objects, and Veep. The Primetime Emmy Awards is going to be held on September 15 later this year.
