Defining Paths, Surveying Futures: An Educational and Interactive Workshop
GEOPOTENTIAL 2019: Defining Paths, Surveying Futures is an educational and interactive workshop aimed for junior and senior high school students which aim to promote the field of Geodetic Engineering as a course of interest to students currently enrolled in the STEM program. Its organizer, UP Society of Geodetic Engineering Majors (UP GEOP) is an academic and socio-civic organization from the University of the Philippines Diliman. They strive to promote excellence in the field of Geodetic Engineering, highlight the relevance of geodetic engineering and develop among its members a sense of commitment and service to the Filipino community.
There will be a series of talks from the fields of Academe, Government and Private Sector, and from a graduate of UP Department of Geodetic Engineering (UP DGE). Under the Academe field, professors from UP DGE and specialists in various fields including land surveying, satellite positioning systems, photogrammetry, and remote sensing. For the Government field, professionals working under the country’s national agencies may opt to share what projects they have done which is of great relevance today. Moving to the Private Sector, surveyors who are currently in private practice may also explain what primarily their company does and where they focus on. Lastly, a graduate of the department will be invited to share their college life and how it’s like to be a GE student in general. These talks will be followed by a demonstration of instruments used in the field.
This year will be UP GEOP’s third time to handle the event and aims to have at least 100 participants coming from schools around Quezon City area. The event will happen on November 23, 2019 (Saturday) at Melchor Hall, Osmena Ave., University of the Philippines Diliman.
