The Manila Symphony Orchestra performs the Concerto de Aranjuez and Shostakovich 5 in Season Finale

The most popular concerto for the guitar, Joaquin Rodrigo’s “Concerto de Aranjuez” will be performed by Spanish guitar virtuoso Jacob Cordover with the Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO) for its season finale on February 5, 2020, 7:30PM at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater). The MSO under the baton of Music Director and principal conductor Marlon Chen, will close the season with a performance of the monumental Symphony No. 5 by Dmitri Shostakovich.

International concert and recording artist, Jacob Cordover who hails from Barcelona, Spain, has enticed audiences in over a dozen countries across four continents. Mr. Cordover’s recent seasons have included performances worldwide at Music by the Sea at Bamfield (Canada), V Festival Internacional de Guitarra (Mexico), String-139 Festival (China), Guitar Friends Concert Series (Philippines), Raynham Hall Recitals (UK), Art Llobet Festival (Spain), Pure Classic Musikkfest (Norway), performances with the Las Colinas, Arlington and Garland Symphony Orchestras, a 13 concert CD release tour of Australia and numerous TV and radio appearances in the USA, Philippines, Norway and Australia.  

For this concert, Jacob is privileged to be able to perform on one of the extraordinary guitars from the GTY Collection. 

American-Taiwanese Maestro Marlon Chen was recently appointed as Manila Symphony Orchestra’s Music Director and Principal Conductor. He likewise continues his positions as Principal Guest Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfonica de la Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Hildalgo and Resident Conductor of the Aperio Ensemble in Houston, Texas. Previously he was an Associate Conductor of the Baltic Sea Philharmonic, an Assistant Conductor of the MDR Symphony Orchestra in Leipzig and an Assistant Conductor with the Orchestre de Paris. Marlon Chen’s dynamic charisma and artistic versatility have seen him conduct opera, ballet, symphonic works and chamber orchestras to sold-out concert halls across four continents. 

The Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO), founded in 1926, is one of Asia’s oldest orchestras. At present, it is one of the most active music institutions in the country. MSO’s mission is to enrich the Filipino’s vibrant cultural life through fine orchestral music and to enable more people to experience the power of music. MSO aims to perform within the highest international standards and present music in a fresh, spirited, and entertaining way.
