Bank accidentally deposits over P6 million to couple’s bank account
A couple spent over P6,240,000 ($120,000) when a bank teller entered the wrong account number after a customer made a deposit.
What would you do if you check your bank and you suddenly have money worth more than you make in a year?
Instead of contacting the bank, this couple was charged with felony theft when they spent all the money they received out of nowhere, according to CNN.
Apparently, the couple, Robert and Tiffany Williams, needed to pay P5 million ($107,000) for overdraft fees from the bank. Along with paying for this, the affidavit stated that the couple also spent the additional money on vehicles such as an SUV, a camper, two four-wheelers, and a car trailer.
“While we can’t comment on the specifics of this issue due to client privacy practices, we always work as quickly as possible to address any issue that affects our clients,” Brian Davis, a bank spokesman told CNN in a statement. “We’re also continuously working to enhance our client service and operating procedures to provide the best client experience possible.”
The couple has already been released with a rough estimate of P1 million ($25,000) bail.
“All I’m going to say is we took some bad legal advice from some people, and it probably wasn’t the best thing in the end,” Robert Williams told CNN affiliate WNEP.
