Mayor Isko Moreno Shuts Down Divisoria Stalls Once Again Because Of Trash
After allowing the removed Recto Avenue and Juan Luna Street stalls to take up the sidewalks of Ylaya, Zamora, Carmen Planas, Sto. Cristo and Jaboneros streets Mayor Isko Moreno has once more disallowed them to operate. This follows a surprise inspection early Monday morning which left the Manila mayor severely disappointed.

Moreno arrived in Divisoria at early dawn to heaps of trash littering the streets. The sight had him confronting the street vendors, who failed to adhere to Manila’s anti-littering ordinance despite the presence of policemen on the street. “Hindi ba kayo nahihiya dyan o talagang baboy din kayo sa bahay? Kailangan ko pa kayo sorpresahin? Pinaghahanapbuhay ko na nga kayo eh,” Moreno asked.
[Are you not ashamed or are you just as filthy at home? Do I still need to surprise you? I’m already allowing you to earn a living.]
“Twenty-four hours wala na ang Ylaya. ‘Di ba pinapayagan natin sila sa gabi para makapagtinda sila? Kung ganyan lang din naman ang iiwan sa’tin araw-araw, tigil na silang lahat,” he followed up with the policemen.
[In 24 hours there will be no more Ylaya. We allowed them to sell at night, right? If this is what they leave us every day, they should all be stopped.]
The Manila Public Information Office released a press statement later in the day to explain that the clearing operation was done in line with Ordinance No. 8572, also known as the Tapat Ko, Linis Ko Ordinance. Said ordinance prohibits “leaving trash and other refuse in the gutter, sidewalks, streets, alleyway, and roads.”
