Seoul government to aid those who live in semi-basements–as seen on “Parasite”

Parasite Bong Joon ho 300x200 - Seoul government to aid those who live in semi-basements–as seen on “Parasite”

Semi-basement dwellings are pretty common in Korea as they are an affordable choice for those who are in low-income brackets. There are a reported 300,000+ semi-basement apartments in South Korea–over 50% of them are in Seoul.

In an effort to improve the lives of those who live in semi-basement dwellings, the Seoul government will be offering financial support to 1,500 of those who live in semi-basements. These efforts will go to renovation, installing the necessary equipment, and overall improvement so that those who do have to endure this kind of living space can be a little more comfortable.

As depicted in the film Parasite, these apartments can get very cramped and can suffer greatly in times of flooding. With these improvements, the Seoul government hopes to improve the lives of those who live there.
