Your Pets Are Now Allowed To Ride Next To You On Public Utility Vehicles

Last April 2019 the LTFRB (The Philippine Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board) released Memorandum Circular No. 2019-019, allowing pets to ride in PUVs (public utility vehicles). However, provisions stipulated that “these animals must be put inside carriers/cages and placed at the designated animal compartment of the PUV, should there be other passengers inside the PUV.”

Efforts by Rep. Ronnie Ong and the PAWSsion Project has resulted in amendments ensuring the safety and comfort of your pets!

LTFRB M.C. 2020 – 003 now states that pets (such as cats and dogs) may be seated beside their owners as long as they are placed in proper carriers or pet bags and are free from any foul odor. Pets must be wearing animal diapers and will be charged the regular commute fare.

Only dogs which fall in the small to medium range will be allowed in PUVs. The memorandum’s annex contains a complete list of dog breeds that are considered ‘large’.

In case of safety concerns, the original memorandum caveats that pets must not display any violent behavior that may pose harm or threat to other passengers.
